18th Edition Live – What did we Learn?
We were among over 6000 professional electricians crammed into cinema’s around the UK last week attending the 18th Edition Live, an event organised by Certsure for members of the NICEIC and ELECSA.
The event was beamed to over 40 cinemas across the UK that saw the new regulations communicated in a way that had never been done before.
So, what did we learn?
The screening focused on each of the new sections included within the existing seven sections of the regulations. This included the introduction of Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs) and Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) which have been included as recommendations to improve safety when making certain electrical installations.
“I attended the Faraday theatre seminar, which was packed out with electricians from across London,” says Simon Hopkins, Marketing Manager at Prysmian UK.
“It was a fantastic turnout and we learned in a visual way the headlines of what has been changed and added in the new 18th Edition.”
Prysmian UK’s technical team analysed the draft of the 18th Edition back in July of last year and we posted some of the main points then.
In particular, the draft explained that Part 8’s addition will be introduced to reduce the energy consumption of electrical installations. It was based on the International Electrotechnical Commission’s new standard IEC 60364-8-1 Low Voltage electrical installations Part 8-1 Energy Efficiency. In this new edition, the section has been turned into an informative annex and is not a mandatory clause.
