Electricians: Resources for the new way of working

The COVID-19 pandemic is fundamentally shifting the way we all have to work. As the economy slowly recovers and businesses slowly get back to a new normal Prysmian wants to support electricians in adapting this new world by helping you find the most relevant information, fast.

Planning how to work safely is critical for our health, for those that we come into contact with and to help reduce the risk of a second wave of coronavirus. Below we have put together a list of some of the documents that Prysmian believes provides useful guidance on how to work safely during the pandemic....

The Government continues to revise its guidance documents on working safely during COVID-19. It has published two documents that are particularly relevant to electricians working in other people’s homes or on larger commercial projects. These are:

  • Guidance on Working Safely During COVID-19 in other people's homes;
  • Guidance on Working Safely During COVID-19 in construction and other outdoor work.

Last month the British Standards Institution published a second version of its guide for organisations on safe working during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes advice on how to manage risks arising from COVID-19 to help support safe working including information on working from home, the safe use of toilets and psychological health and well-being.

In addition, the Heath and Safety Executive has published guidance aimed at organisations on managing COVID risks at work. This includes advice on how to make a workplace COVID-secure

Electrical trade bodies and associations, such as the ECA, NICEIC and ELECSA, have published a short safety video for householder, electrical and other engineering contractors on undertaking essential domestic work. This video is particularly useful at explaining to occupants how they can help ensure work in their home can be undertaken safely.
