Prysmian apprenticeship programme investing in personal and community growth

29 August 2017

Investing in Personal and Community Growth

With the Apprenticeship Levy recently taking effect, businesses across the country are adapting their training and professional development strategies to meet government aims. For Prysmian, the UK’s leading cable manufacturer, apprentices and vocational training for students fall at the heart of the organisation’s strategy for growth.

Apprenticeship Program

The current apprenticeship program runs for a minimum of two years and allows candidates to gain both practical and theoretical qualifications across Prysmian’s UK sites. By actively investing in the future of the business, we are making clear our commitment to invest in young people. We strive to contribute towards a growth in skills within the communities we operate in.

Apprentice of the Year Winner

George Lucas is one apprentice who joined Prysmian in July 2015 in order to develop key skills and knowledge. An Apprentice of the Year winner, George’s Grandfather also used to work for the company back when it was called Pirelli.

“I have enjoyed working with a variety of departments and people in college, but most importantly within the factory plant itself,” George says. “Working alongside such intelligent and enthusiastic people has definitely aided my development and I hope to continue that throughout my apprenticeship.”

“I think apprenticeships are definitely the way forward,” George continues. “Companies are more interested in finding young talent who can develop into future key members of a company. They look for experience just as much as educational qualifications and invest in you to progress your career. They help make you more confident in your own personal ability.”

Career Development

Apprenticeships are helping to develop the professional careers of individuals while at the same time addressing a wider skills shortage in the manufacturing labour market. They also help to develop long-lasting, strong links with the communities we operate in and work with.
